So what is shadow copy?
This is a feature within Server 2012 that can be used to restore previous versions of files and folders. It is a lot faster than restoring it from traditional backup methods. You should however not rely on this as being the primary backup solution. It takes a snapshot of the file or folders and then keeps track of any changes made to those files or folders. You can allocate a certain size of diskspace towards it and when that space is reached it rewrites over previous snapshots. For this builtin window feature to work you need to have a NTFS file system.
Step 1:
- Select File Explorer

Step 2:
- Right Click Drive that you want to enable shadow copy on
-
Select Configure Shadow Copies

Step 3:
- Select Enable for that drive you may get a popup select yes
- Selected Schedule

Step 4:
- Configure the Size you want
- Select Schedule

Step 5:
- Configure your Schedule when you want it to work (You can configure to your requirements)
- Click ok

Step 6:
-
To Restore Previous version , right click Drive letter and select restore previous version. Navigate to the Date / Time select open and copy the file you wish to restore to the file path you want it in.
Congratulations Simple isn't it!
