Configure Switch Name

Step 1:

  • Connect to Console Port on Switch
  • Check to see what COM port your device has picked up on (Com 1-3 Etc) - I use Putty, there are a few different terminals to use.
  • Once connected you will be presented with the following screen
  • Hit Enter

Step 2:

  • This Is User Exec Mode
  • Type Enable

Step 3:

  • This Is Privilege Exec Mode

Step 4:

  • Type Configure Terminal and Enter

Step 5:

  • You are now in Global Configuration Mode

Step 6:

  • Type Hostname Switch (This is what we will call our switch) and Hit Enter
  • Use ? to check command list (handy feature to use when you cant remember the next piece of command line)

Step 7:

  • As you can see the hostname has Changed to Switch
